WILLINGTON, Conn. — A 23-year-old Willington man was arrested Sunday after Connecticut State Police responded to an automatic crash notification and found a damaged pickup truck on Trask Road, according to police.

Troopers assigned to Troop C were sent to the area of 54 Trask Road at about 1:33 a.m. on Aug. 23 after receiving the crash alert. They found an unoccupied, damaged silver Ford Ranger at the scene. Police said the vehicle was registered to Quin W. Rogers of Willington.

As troopers searched for anyone who may have been involved in the crash, they requested assistance from a police K-9 and began establishing a perimeter in the area.

During the search, a trooper approached a nearby residence and found Rogers with another man. Police said the trooper recognized Rogers from his driver’s license photograph.

When questioned about the damaged truck and whether he had been injured, Rogers allegedly gave evasive answers and began walking toward a picnic table. According to police, the trooper noticed a crossbow and several arrows on the table and attempted to prevent Rogers from reaching it.

Police said Rogers physically resisted the trooper and did not follow commands. The trooper took him to the ground and handcuffed him.

During the interaction, the trooper reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol coming from Rogers and observing other signs of possible impairment, according to the police account. Rogers allegedly declined to perform standardized field sobriety tests and refused to provide a breath sample.

Investigators also spoke with people in the area. One nearby resident told police they had seen a man matching Rogers’ description inside the damaged Ford Ranger shortly before officers arrived. A witness at Rogers’ residence also told troopers that Rogers had left the home alone in the truck shortly before the crash response, police said.

Rogers was charged with interfering with an officer, failure to take a sobriety test, evading responsibility resulting in property damage, and failure to maintain lane, according to Connecticut State Police.

He was released on a $2,500 cash or surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Sept. 8, police said.

The charges are allegations, and Rogers is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
