Two people were killed Saturday morning in Mays Landing when a stolen vehicle crashed head-on into another vehicle, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. Aug. 22 near Route 50 and Third Street in the Mays Landing section of Hamilton Township.
The two people killed were identified as Robert Barr Jr., 54, and Alice Stilwell, 67, both of Egg Harbor Township, authorities said. Investigators determined that the stolen vehicle was at fault in the collision.
Authorities said the stolen vehicle was occupied by 18-year-old Nayshaun Brown of Atlantic City and three juveniles. All four occupants face charges connected to the incident.
Brown and the three juveniles were charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree joyriding and other related offenses, according to authorities. Brown also faces a first-degree charge of employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime.
Brown remains held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Two of the juveniles also remain in custody, while another juvenile was released following a Superior Court judge’s decision Sunday morning, authorities said.
The investigation remains ongoing and involves the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, New Jersey Attorney General’s Office and Hamilton Township Police Department.
The Attorney General’s Office has not provided additional details about the police involvement. The office said state law requires its investigation when a person dies during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in an official capacity.
The latest reports also indicate investigators determined the stolen vehicle had been taken from Longport before the crash. Authorities have not released all details surrounding what happened before the collision.
