A 71-year-old woman was killed Saturday night in a hit-and-run crash in North Hollywood, and Los Angeles police are asking the public for help finding the driver involved.
The crash happened around 9:35 p.m. on October 3 near Lankershim Boulevard and Oxnard Street, according to police. Investigators said the woman was crossing Oxnard Street outside a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a dark red Ford SUV.
Police said the SUV was traveling south on Lankershim Boulevard, north of Oxnard Street, when it hit the pedestrian. After the collision, the driver made a U-turn on Lankershim Boulevard and headed north without stopping to identify themselves or provide assistance.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene, but the woman was pronounced dead at the location. Her name has not been released while authorities work to notify her family. Her identification is also pending the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s process.
Investigators have not publicly identified a suspect or announced an arrest. They are now working to determine who was behind the wheel of the dark red Ford SUV.
The LAPD is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or was driving through the area around the time of the collision to come forward. Investigators are particularly interested in anyone who may have seen the SUV on Lankershim Boulevard near Oxnard Street.
A reward of up to $50,000 is available through Los Angeles’ Hit-and-Run Reward Program for information that leads to the driver’s identification, apprehension and conviction or other qualifying resolution.
