A Minnesota man has pleaded guilty to felony first-degree DWI after his wife was fatally struck by the pickup truck he was driving in Sibley County last year.
Jeremy Micheal Davidson, 49, pleaded guilty in connection with the Nov. 22, 2025, death of his 46-year-old wife, Melissa Davidson. Under the plea agreement, the criminal vehicular homicide charges against him were dismissed. Prosecutors are expected to ask for a three-year prison sentence when Davidson is sentenced Dec. 17.
The incident happened near County Road 17 and 310th Street in Sibley County, roughly 70 miles southwest of Minneapolis.
According to court records, authorities were called to the area after receiving a report that a woman had gotten out of a moving vehicle and was struck by it. Deputies found a Dodge Ram pickup stopped at the scene with its engine still running.
Davidson was found on top of the truck and had to be removed by law enforcement.
Investigators reported signs that Davidson had been drinking. Officers detected the smell of alcohol and noted that his speech was slurred. Court documents also state that Davidson told investigators he and Melissa had been drinking before he drove them home.
Davidson told authorities that the couple had argued while they were traveling. He said Melissa became angry, began hitting him and eventually opened the door and jumped from the moving truck.
The vehicle then struck Melissa, causing fatal injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators also attempted to conduct field sobriety testing, but Davidson did not participate. He later refused a preliminary breath test, and authorities obtained a warrant for a blood sample, according to earlier court reporting.
The case also involved Davidson’s previous DWI history. Court records indicate he had a prior felony DWI conviction from 2007, which was relevant to the first-degree DWI charge.
After his arrest, statements recorded inside a patrol vehicle captured Davidson repeatedly referring to his wife’s death and expressing disbelief over what had happened, according to the criminal complaint and later reporting.
Melissa Davidson’s death was initially investigated as a criminal vehicular homicide case. The Sibley County court record was later amended as the case moved forward, and the most recent reporting confirms that Davidson entered a guilty plea to first-degree DWI while the homicide charges were dismissed as part of the agreement.
Davidson remains scheduled for sentencing, where prosecutors are expected to seek a three-year prison term.
