Two adults were arrested after a reported shoplifting incident in Lutherville led to a vehicle crash and a brief foot pursuit, according to Baltimore County police.
Officers from the Cockeysville Precinct were called to the unit block of West Ridgley Road at about 5:03 p.m. after a business reported a shoplifting incident. Police were given descriptions of the people involved as well as the vehicle they were believed to be using.
The investigation quickly moved beyond the original shoplifting call.
Baltimore County’s Police Aviation Unit was provided with the suspect and vehicle descriptions and located the vehicle as it traveled through the area. Police said officers on the ground did not pursue the vehicle.
Instead, aviation officers continued monitoring its movement and alerted street officers after the vehicle reportedly ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle.
Following the crash, the suspects left the vehicle and ran from the scene on foot. Officers then pursued them, and two adults were taken into custody.
Police have not released the identities of those arrested or provided details about the items allegedly taken from the business.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the shoplifting report, crash and arrests remain under investigation. Baltimore County police said additional information may be released as the investigation continues.
