    73-Year-Old Murrieta Man Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle While Jogging

    A 73-year-old Murrieta man died after he was struck by a vehicle while jogging Sunday morning near the intersection of Whitewood Road and Meadowlark Lane, according to the Murrieta Police Department.

    The crash happened at about 6:55 a.m. on Sept. 13, when a vehicle traveling south on Whitewood Road struck the pedestrian after he entered the roadway. Police said the man was believed to be out for a jog at the time.

    Dense fog was reported in the area when the collision occurred, according to investigators.

    The driver, a 52-year-old woman, tried to swerve to avoid the pedestrian and stopped immediately after the crash to provide assistance, police said.

    The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center. Despite efforts by medical personnel, he later died from his injuries.

    The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner identified the victim as Nabil Alsalek, 73, of Murrieta. County records list his time of death as 11:47 a.m. on Sept. 13.

    Police said alcohol and drugs are not currently believed to have contributed to the collision. The circumstances surrounding how the pedestrian entered the roadway remain under investigation.

    Murrieta Police Department’s Traffic Unit is handling the investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that could assist investigators is asked to contact Traffic Investigator Dale De Schepper at 951-440-2304 or Traffic Unit Sgt. Brent Sforzini at 951-219-4823.
