Three teenagers were arrested after an alleged armed home invasion and robbery at a home on Chapel Street in Norwood, Massachusetts, Sunday afternoon.
Norwood police said officers were called to the home around 2:10 p.m. after three male suspects allegedly forced their way inside. The victim told investigators that the suspects displayed a firearm, pistol-whipped the victim and took several items before fleeing.
Two of the suspects were reportedly wearing masks. The victim also told police that the firearm used during the incident had a green laser attached to it.
Officers quickly began searching the area. One of the teenagers was spotted on railroad tracks and was taken into custody near Norwood Central train station.
At about the same time, a Norwood Police public safety aide monitoring traffic cameras spotted two other suspects near Washington Street and Walnut Avenue. The pair ran when officers approached and continued into the area around Press Avenue, where officers eventually took them into custody.
Police said the three suspects are 15, 16 and 17 years old and live in Boston. Their names have not been released because they are juveniles. Investigators also said one of the teenagers knew the victim.
During the search, a local resident found a handgun and a loaded magazine in the area where the suspects had fled and turned them over to police. Investigators identified the weapon as a Taurus G2C 9mm handgun, with nine rounds of ammunition in the magazine.
Additional officers from Westwood, Foxborough and Sharon joined the search with K-9 teams as police worked to determine whether any other weapons or evidence had been left behind.
Police said property believed to have been stolen from the home was recovered. Investigators also found a firearm laser attachment in one of the backpacks associated with the suspects, consistent with the victim’s description of the weapon used during the robbery.
No injuries were reported in the incident, according to police.
Norwood Police Chief Christopher Padden said the quick arrests came after officers and the department’s public safety aide were able to track the suspects’ movements.
The teenagers face charges including home invasion, armed assault in a dwelling, robbery, conspiracy and possession of a firearm. The case remains under investigation.
Because the suspects are juveniles, additional information about them may remain limited as the legal proceedings move forward.
