A 2-year-old girl died after she was found unresponsive in an outdoor pool at a home in Scott County, Iowa, authorities said.
Emergency crews were called to a home on Maysville Road shortly after 2:25 p.m. Sunday following a report of an unresponsive child. According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the girl had fallen into the pool and remained submerged for an undetermined amount of time.
Family members found the child and began performing life-saving measures before emergency responders arrived.
The toddler was taken by air ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Deputies said the child was unresponsive when emergency medical personnel arrived at the home.
The circumstances surrounding how the child entered the pool remain under investigation. Authorities have not released additional information about the child or provided further details about the incident.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the death.
