A 15-year-old boy was killed in a shooting late Friday night in southeast Atlanta, prompting a homicide investigation, police said.
Officers were called to a home in the 900 block of Dunning Street SE shortly after 11:20 p.m. after receiving a report of a person being shot. When they arrived, they found the teenager suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Atlanta Police Department investigators from the Homicide and Gangs units responded as officers worked to determine what led to the shooting.
Investigators have been speaking with family members and witnesses as they piece together what happened before the gunfire. Police said the incident appears to have been isolated and involved people who were known to one another.
Authorities were also working to identify a person of interest believed to be a young individual. Police have not announced an arrest, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
The victim’s name has not been publicly released.
Police have recovered ballistic evidence from the scene and identified the type of firearm believed to have been used, though additional details about the weapon have not been released.
