A Brooklyn neighborhood was left with a long trail of damaged vehicles and scattered car parts Tuesday evening after police say an unlicensed teenager crashed into 13 parked cars in Gravesend.

The crashes happened on East Second Street shortly before 7 p.m., according to police. The 17-year-old driver allegedly left the scene after the collision, but he and a 16-year-old passenger were later taken into custody.

Residents described hearing a series of loud impacts as the vehicle moved through the street.

Sandi Alashkar said she had parked her car and gone inside only about 10 minutes before the crash. When she heard the noise and came back outside, she found that her vehicle had been damaged.

“It sounded like lightning struck one of the cars,” Alashkar said.

Michael Coluccio, who also lives on the block, said he heard repeated crashes and came to his front door to find the area surrounded by police.

The scene stretched along East Second Street, with damaged vehicles and pieces of cars left across the roadway.

Joseph Coluccio, who witnessed the aftermath from his home, described the scene as chaotic, with cars damaged throughout the area.

For residents, the incident was about more than the cost of repairing their vehicles. Alashkar said she was relieved she had already gone inside before the crash and worried about what could have happened if she had still been outside.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Police said the teen driver was unlicensed. He was issued a summons for allegedly driving without a license and leaving the scene of the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision.
