- What subject do you teach?
Visual arts– the best subject. Ok, ok, the most fun subject.
- What’s your favorite thing about teaching?
First, it is an occupation where I feel like I am not getting up and going to a “job” every morning. I am getting paid to do something I have been doing my entire life– go to school. Not only go to school, but to my favorite subject, all day long, where I get to decide what we do in class. Second, I have the opportunity to share/teach everything I have learned in my life about art and how to just live better and hopefully help my students’ lives be better and easier. It’s the hope of what I do here as a teacher that will echo for an eternity even if it’s just for one kid.
- What’s your favorite movie of all time?
There are so many. I will go alphabetically and give you my first one: August Rush.
- If you had to teach another subject, which one would you choose?
Art History or Math, or Architecture, if that were an option.
- What’s your favorite US state?
Can’t choose just one– all of the West Coast: Cali, Oregon, and Washington (if there weren’t people), Wyoming because of all the nature, Idaho because it always surprises me with its hidden gems, Michigan because it is squeaky clean– no pollution, and Hawaii because, well, really no explanation needed.
- Dogs or cats?
I say dogs… my family says I should say cats.
- Who’s your favorite painter?
Cliche to say, but Leonardo Da Vinci– not just for his paintings but I feel like I can relate a lot to him. He was a lefty and believed to have characteristics that correlate with dyslexia. His strengths were not only realistic art, but also math, science, and inventing. These are all strengths which I see in myself.
- If you could only eat at one restaurant for the rest of your life, which one would you choose?
A restaurant in Mason, Ohio called Firebird because they have a wide variety of healthy food choices and their menu is always changing based on what is fresh or in season.
- What’s your favorite number?
17
- If you had to live in a country other than America, where would you live?
I would be happy in any country in Europe.
- What are your thoughts on motorcycles?
I had a dirt bike growing up. I flipped it and broke my arm. Only broken bone other than fingers, toes, and nose I have ever had. I thought about getting one not too long ago… it is safe to say that after trying it out I should probably just stick with bicycles. I still think they are so cool– unsafe– but cool.
- Have you ever considered getting a tattoo?
Nope. I just can’t think of anything I love enough to put on my body for the rest of my life. If I love a piece of art, I will hang it on my wall and one day when I die, let someone else enjoy it as much as I did instead of taking it to the grave with me. IF I did though, I always thought it would be funny to get a tiny blue & green dot on the bottom of my foot and that way I could tell people that I am on top of the world.
- What’s your second favorite movie of all time?
Well, we might as well stay in alphabetical order of the list and go with Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
- What was your favorite part of high school when you were a student?
Everything. Before social media, school was the place to hang out. You attended all the sport, club, and music events because that is where you met new people and got to socialize with friends.
- If you had a hamster, what would you name it?
I would have to meet my hamster before I could name her.
- Strawberry milk or chocolate milk?
Strawberry.
- If you weren’t a teacher, what would you do for a living?
Architect.
- What’s your favorite sport to watch?
Basketball.
- If you could have any superpower, what would you choose?
Invisibility.
- Do you have a favorite children’s book? If so, what is it?
I’ll Love You Forever, Big Plans, & Just Grandpa and Me.
- Which historical era is your favorite?
Either 1600s Renaissance, the 1920s, or the 1940s.
- What is your preferred shirt sleeve length?
Short sleeves.
- What’s your favorite type of cheese?
Oh, I could go on on this subject for days. Cheese is my favorite food. I love it all, even the smelly stuff. Aged Gouda, aged at least 24 months is my favorite today.
- If Waverly’s mascot wasn’t the Tiger any more, what would you change it to?
The Waverly Orangutans because they are orange and it would be too hard to change our mascot and our school colors all in one go.
- Who’s your favorite musician/band?
Matchbox Twenty and Muse have always been my answer when asked this question. I do still really like them, but my taste in music has been changing a lot lately, so no definite answer on that one.
- Which season is your favorite?
Summer.
- Morning person or night owl?
Night owl.
- If you had to lose one of your five senses, which one would you choose to lose?
Hearing. I figure the odds of me losing my hearing are pretty high (considering my family history), so… I have already accepted it.
- What’s your favorite TV show?
I don’t watch TV hardly ever. I did watch this series a year ago, based on a book called Lupin. I really liked it. Growing up, my favorite show was Friends.

Pretend to be a zombie until I could find a zombie-free zone to forage off of the land.
