I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Waverly High School’s new principal- Sara Ramsey. She told me that she never really planned to be a principal. She typically assumed a leadership role when she worked with teams of teachers. This led to a transition to a leadership position.
Ms. Ramsey also told me that she does not like to stay in the same position for too long. She likes the change that comes with a new job. She has not been in the same job for more than three years.
Ms. Ramsey also said that working with the staff at the high school is very different from working in a primary building. High school staff tend to be more compartmentalized by subject and that changes the way she interacts with them. “Everyone kind of runs their own ship”.
Ms. Ramsey said that the problems at the high school are sometimes very different than problems that she dealt with at the primary. She also mentioned that she dealt with some issues in high school and wants to help current students deal with their own issues and be successful.
We wish Ms. Ramsey good luck for a successful first year at Waverly High School. Go Tigers!
