A man died after being struck by three vehicles while crossing Pacific Avenue in Long Beach on Sunday evening, with two of the drivers leaving the scene, police said.
The crash happened around 7:24 p.m. Sept. 13 on Pacific Avenue, just north of Pacific Coast Highway. Officers responding to the collision found the adult male pedestrian lying in the roadway. He was given medical aid before being taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators said the man was walking east across Pacific Avenue and entered the roadway from the center median. He was outside a marked crosswalk when he was struck by an unidentified white SUV.
The pedestrian was then hit by a dark-colored sedan. The driver of that vehicle also left the area without stopping. A third vehicle, a 2021 Jaguar, subsequently struck the man.
Unlike the first two drivers, the Jaguar driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing. At this stage, detectives do not believe speed, distracted driving or impaired driving were factors in the collision.
The identity of the victim has not been released. Authorities are withholding his name while the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner works to notify his next of kin.
Investigators are still working to identify the two drivers who left the scene. Details about the vehicles and their drivers remain limited as the investigation continues.
