DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A DeKalb County police officer was injured during a domestic dispute response that escalated into gunfire and an hours-long standoff at an apartment complex.

Officers were called to the Reserve at Stone Creek Apartments on South Harrison Road at about 11:23 a.m. after a report of a domestic dispute. When officers arrived, a suspect opened fire, according to the information provided by authorities.

One officer was injured during the response and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The officer was later released. Authorities have not said whether the officer was struck by gunfire or injured in another way.

The shooting led to a prolonged police operation as the suspect barricaded himself inside an apartment.

DeKalb County’s SWAT team and Bomb Squad responded to the apartment complex as officers worked to bring the standoff to an end.

The property remained under lockdown while police surrounded the apartment and attempted to safely remove the suspect. Residents were kept outside for several hours as the operation continued.

The standoff eventually ended when officers took the suspect into custody.

    Suspect Identified and Charged

Authorities identified the suspect as 23-year-old Samuel Norris.

Norris was charged with aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer. Additional charges related to the domestic dispute could be filed as the investigation continues.

The officer has since been released from the hospital. Further details about the officer’s injury and the circumstances that led to the shooting have not been publicly disclosed.
