A 27-year-old Dearborn man was shot and killed inside a Detroit clothing store Wednesday evening, prompting a homicide investigation by Detroit police.
Ali Wissam Aoun was found dead inside Goodfellas Wear on Woodward Avenue after police and emergency medical crews were called to the store around 6 p.m., according to the Detroit Police Department.
Aoun was identified as the son of the store’s owner.
News of the shooting shocked customers who knew Aoun through the business. Rondell Glenn, who said his children enjoyed visiting the store, remembered Aoun as someone who treated customers well and often gave him discounts on clothes for his children.
Glenn said he initially did not realize Aoun was the person involved when he heard about the shooting.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting have not been fully released, and police have not publicly identified a suspect or announced an arrest in connection with the killing.
Aoun’s death has also prompted an outpouring of condolences from the local Muslim community. According to an announcement from the Islamic Institute of America in Dearborn Heights, Aoun is scheduled to be buried Friday in Westland. A memorial Isbouh service is planned for Sunday.
The institute’s announcement offered prayers for Aoun and his family following the death.
Detroit police are asking anyone who may have information about the shooting to come forward. Tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 800-SPEAK-UP, through DetroitRewards.TV, or directly to the Detroit Police homicide unit at 313-596-2260.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine what led to the shooting and identify those responsible.
