A man was found dead in the water off Malibu on Wednesday afternoon, prompting an investigation by Los Angeles County authorities.
Emergency crews were called to the beach near 24654 Malibu Road shortly before 3:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a person in the water. Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man had not been identified as of Thursday, and authorities had not released his age or other identifying information.
The circumstances surrounding his death remained unclear. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide investigators were involved in the response and were working to determine how the man ended up in the water.
Authorities said there was no immediate indication of foul play as the investigation began. The cause of death had also not been determined.
Aerial footage from the scene showed sheriff’s personnel and firefighters gathered along the beach, where a large canopy had been placed over the area surrounding the body.
