A 25-year-old New Bedford woman has been charged in connection with a shooting at a Taunton house party that killed a 22-year-old Brockton man and injured seven other people.
Sienna Barboza was arrested Wednesday and faces one count of murder and seven counts of armed assault with intent to murder, according to authorities. The charges stem from the shooting at a home on Weir Street early Sunday morning.
Police received multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire and several people injured at about 12:35 a.m. Sunday in the area of 261 Weir Street. Investigators determined that a large gathering had taken place at the property, including people in the yard.
Eight people in their early 20s were ultimately identified as shooting victims. They were taken to area hospitals either by emergency crews or on their own.
One of those victims, Zirovick Depina of Brockton, died from his injuries. Depina was 22 years old.
Among the seven surviving victims, one was initially reported to be in serious but stable condition. The others suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Authorities had not released a new update on their conditions as of Wednesday.
The arrest marks a significant development in an investigation that initially had no identified suspect. Taunton police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office have continued investigating how the shooting unfolded and what led to the gunfire.
Barboza is scheduled to be arraigned at approximately 9 a.m. Thursday in Taunton District Court. It was not immediately clear whether she had an attorney representing her.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not publicly released additional details about what led to the shooting or identified any further suspects.
Barboza is accused of the crimes and has not been convicted. The charges will be addressed through the court process.
