Two teenagers were injured early Sunday morning when an e-bike collided with a Cadillac in West Philadelphia’s Cobbs Creek neighborhood, leaving a 15-year-old in critical condition and a 16-year-old hospitalized.
The crash happened shortly after 1 a.m. Sept. 6 at the intersection of 58th Street and Hazel Avenue, according to Philadelphia police.
Police said the 15-year-old was operating the e-bike with a 16-year-old passenger as they traveled west on Hazel Avenue. At the same time, a red 2019 Cadillac CTS was traveling north on 58th Street.
The e-bike entered the intersection without stopping at a posted stop sign and struck the Cadillac, according to the preliminary investigation.
Both teenagers were taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for treatment. The 15-year-old rider was listed in critical condition, while the 16-year-old passenger was reported to be in stable condition.
Video obtained by NBC10 appeared to show the e-bike shortly before the collision. The footage showed the riders approaching the intersection and continuing through the stop sign before the crash.
The collision caused visible damage to the Cadillac, while the e-bike was left in the roadway after the impact.
The driver of the Cadillac was not injured and remained at the scene, according to police.
The identities of the two teenagers have not been released. Police have not announced any charges in connection with the crash.
The investigation remains active, and additional details about the circumstances of the collision have not been released.
