A 36-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after a woman was fatally stabbed inside a Brickell apartment building early Friday morning, according to Miami police and court records.

Police responded to the Solitair Brickell Apartments at 86 SW 8th Street at about 4:45 a.m. Sept. 4 after receiving a report of a stabbing. Officers found the woman inside the building suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was described by police as being in her late 50s or early 60s. Her identity has not been publicly released.

Authorities identified the suspect as Stefano Eduardo Cremascocicero, 36. According to his arrest report, officers encountered him in the building’s lobby with what investigators described as blood on his hands, clothing and shoes.

Police said Cremascocicero told officers, “I was defending myself,” before directing them toward the apartment where the woman was found.

Investigators then began examining surveillance footage and building access records as they worked to establish what happened inside the high-rise.

According to the arrest report, security footage and key-fob records showed Cremascocicero and the woman entering and leaving the building together during the night. Investigators said additional elevator footage from around 4:30 a.m. showed Cremascocicero wearing bloodstained clothing and shoes while carrying a knife.

The case is being treated as an isolated incident, and police have indicated that it may have been domestic in nature. Detectives have been working to establish the exact relationship between Cremascocicero and the woman.

The stabbing occurred on the 47th floor of the building, according to local television reporting. Police also examined more than one area of the property as part of the investigation.

Cremascocicero faces a charge of second-degree murder with a weapon. The charge is an allegation, and the criminal case remains pending.

Police have not publicly released the victim’s name or provided a complete account of what led to the confrontation. The investigation remains ongoing.
