Uniontown, Pa. — A Brownsville man is facing kidnapping and assault charges after authorities say he broke into his former girlfriend’s Uniontown home and held her, her grandmother and her young child against their will for several days.
Tylar Greenough, 30, was charged Monday in connection with the alleged incident. The charges include aggravated assault, kidnapping to inflict injury or terror, burglary, unlawful restraint causing serious injury and terroristic threats.
According to investigators, Greenough allegedly entered the home on Lincoln Street through a second-story window using a ladder. Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele said the victims were then kept under his control over the course of the weekend.
Authorities said the alleged violence was connected to Greenough’s former relationship with the woman and her relationship with another man.
Court documents say Greenough allegedly assaulted both women and threatened to kill them. The former girlfriend also told police that Greenough wanted her to watch other people being killed before he killed her.
Investigators said the woman had previously obtained a protection from abuse order against Greenough and that he had violated the order in the past.
Police say victim was forced to arrange meeting
According to the criminal complaint, Greenough allegedly forced his former girlfriend to arrange a meeting in Brownsville with another man she had been seeing.
Police said Greenough hid in the back seat while she drove to the meeting. When the man entered the vehicle, Greenough allegedly tried to grab him. The man escaped from the vehicle, and investigators said Greenough then took control of the car and attempted to hit him with it.
The attempt was unsuccessful, according to charging documents.
Police also allege that Greenough later forced the woman to make a false report to Pennsylvania State Police accusing the other man of sexual assault. She eventually went to a hospital.
During the same period, investigators said Greenough’s grandmother victim was forced out of the vehicle and made to walk along a road. She told police that Greenough threatened her life and had an AK-style rifle.
The criminal complaint also describes injuries suffered by the two women. Police reported that the former girlfriend had significant bruising around one eye, while the grandmother had extensive bruising to her face and a cut beneath one eye.
Victims sought help after Greenough left
The women did not immediately report the alleged kidnapping, according to authorities.
Aubele said they waited until Greenough left for work on the morning of Aug. 31 before seeking help from police. Authorities said the victims remained fearful that reporting him could put them or other family members in danger.
Investigators later found Greenough back at the Uniontown residence, where police said the inside of the home had been heavily damaged.
Authorities also said Greenough had a firearm when he was arrested. Because he is a convicted felon, police said he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition in Pennsylvania.
The case was filed Monday, and Greenough is being held in the Fayette County Jail without bail, according to court reporting. He faces multiple felony charges as the criminal case moves forward.
The allegations have not been proven in court, and Greenough is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
