A Thursday night in northwest Miami-Dade turned violent after a reported shooting left a man with a gunshot wound to his shoulder and a woman with a graze wound to the side of her head, authorities said.

Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to the area near Northwest 20th Avenue and Northwest 63rd Street shortly after 9:15 p.m. on October 15, following a ShotSpotter alert indicating possible gunfire.

When deputies arrived, they found the man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to one shoulder. The woman was located shortly afterward with an injury to the side of her head consistent with being grazed by a bullet.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews transported both victims to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for treatment. Officials said both were in stable condition.

As of late Thursday night, investigators had not announced any arrests or identified a suspect. Authorities also had not released the victims’ names or explained what may have led to the shooting.

What Happened Near Northwest 20th Avenue?

The investigation began after the ShotSpotter system alerted authorities to possible gunfire in the area.

ShotSpotter uses acoustic sensors to detect sounds consistent with gunshots and help pinpoint their likely location. Such alerts can help deputies respond to possible shootings, including incidents where no one has called 911.

However, the alert itself does not establish what happened or who may have been involved. Investigators must examine the circumstances at the scene and gather evidence to determine the events leading up to the incident.

In this case, deputies located two injured people, and both were taken to the hospital. Officials have not publicly detailed whether the victims knew each other or whether they were targeted.

Investigation Continues as Key Details Remain Unknown

Several questions remain unanswered, including what prompted the shooting, whether additional people were involved and whether investigators have identified anyone connected to the incident.

No suspect description or motive had been released as of Thursday night. Authorities also had not provided further information about possible witnesses or evidence recovered from the scene.

For now, the investigation remains ongoing as deputies work to establish what happened and determine who may be responsible.

The victims’ stable conditions offer some encouraging news, but the circumstances surrounding their injuries remain unclear. Any additional information from investigators could help clarify how the shooting unfolded.

Officials had not announced further developments by late Thursday night.
