Three people were found dead inside a home in Marin County on Sunday evening, October 11, after a 911 call reported gunshots inside the residence, prompting a rapid response from sheriff’s deputies.
The incident occurred on Strawberry Circle in Strawberry, an unincorporated community near Mill Valley. Deputies arrived shortly after 5 p.m. and made contact with the person who reported the gunfire. The caller had safely exited the home before officers secured the surrounding area and entered the residence.
Inside, deputies discovered three deceased individuals. Detectives subsequently began investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
What Investigators Have Confirmed
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation was still in its early stages. Authorities have not publicly confirmed what led to the shooting or established the circumstances surrounding the three deaths.
The identities of the deceased were not officially released in the sheriff’s office’s initial information. However, subsequent media reports identified two of the people as Ann Mannix, a retired San Francisco Police Department deputy chief, and her husband, Kevin Mannix, a retired police sergeant. Their daughter, Katie, was also reported to be among those who died.
The reported identities and the circumstances of the deaths remain subject to official confirmation as the investigation continues.
No Known Threat to the Public
Despite the seriousness of the incident, authorities said there was no known threat to the wider community.
Investigators are working to establish what happened inside the residence and determine the circumstances that led to the deaths. Officials have not publicly disclosed a motive.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further details may emerge as authorities continue their work.
For residents in the Strawberry and Mill Valley areas, the sheriff’s office’s assessment that there is no known threat to the community offers some reassurance while investigators work to establish the facts.
