A 47-year-old truck driver died early Wednesday after his tractor-trailer left Interstate 10 in Hudspeth County, struck roadside barriers and overturned before catching fire.
The crash happened around 3:50 a.m. on October 7 in the westbound lanes of I-10 near Mile Marker 125, about 18 miles west of Sierra Blanca.
The driver, identified as Tony Ray Wade, was traveling west when the truck moved onto the outside shoulder for reasons that remain unclear. The vehicle struck a guardrail before hitting a concrete barrier.
The impact caused both the truck and trailer to overturn, leaving them upside down and blocking two lanes of the interstate.
The truck then caught fire while Wade remained trapped inside. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:49 a.m., according to information released by Texas authorities.
The crash brought a serious disruption to traffic along the westbound stretch of I-10 as emergency crews responded to the overturned vehicles and fire.
Authorities have not released a reason for why Wade left the roadway. The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.
No additional details about the crash have been released as investigators continue working to determine what happened before the truck left the interstate.
