A meeting outside a McDonald’s on Bessemer Road in Birmingham turned deadly late last month when gunfire broke out, leaving 20-year-old Isaiah Earl Hosanna dead.
Police said Hosanna and several others had arranged to meet someone outside the restaurant on Sept. 28. The meeting ended in gunfire, and investigators believe Hosanna and others attempted to get away as shots were fired.
Officers were called to the McDonald’s in the 2200 block of Bessemer Road shortly before 9 p.m. and found Hosanna suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking lot. He was taken to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:27 p.m.
A second person was also wounded during the shooting. That victim was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle and suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Police have not publicly identified the person.
The shooting also left several windows at the McDonald’s shattered.
Two Arrests Made in Decatur
The investigation continued for more than a week before police made arrests.
On Oct. 6, Birmingham police investigators, working with officers from Decatur, arrested Ernesto Gama Pablo, 20, of Fort Payne, and a 17-year-old boy at a location on Westmead Drive Southwest in Decatur.
Pablo faces charges of capital murder, attempted murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. He is being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail.
The teenage suspect was taken to the Birmingham City Jail and placed on a 48-hour felony extension. Authorities have not publicly released the teenager’s name because of his age, and specific charges against him have not been detailed.
Investigation Continues
The circumstances surrounding the meeting and what led to the shooting have not been fully disclosed.
Police have said the shooting followed a planned meeting involving Hosanna and others, but investigators have not publicly established a motive for the violence.
The case remains active as authorities continue working to determine the events that led to the shooting and the roles of those involved.
Hosanna, who was from Hoover, was the only person killed in the Sept. 28 shooting. The second victim survived the attack with non-life-threatening injuries.
