A morning crash on Chicago’s West Side quickly escalated into a physical fight between people involved in the collision, leading to two arrests, police said.
The incident happened around 8:15 a.m. near 18th Street and Avers Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood. According to police, the driver of a BMW went through a stop sign and struck a Chevrolet sedan.
The crash did not end when the vehicles collided. The drivers of both cars, along with a passenger who was in the BMW, got out of their vehicles and became involved in a fight.
Officers responding to the scene later recovered a baseball bat that was being treated as possible evidence. The circumstances surrounding the bat and how it may have been involved in the confrontation remain part of the investigation.
The woman driving the Chevrolet was taken to a hospital for treatment and was reported to be in fair condition.
Police took the other two people involved in the confrontation into custody at the scene. Charges were still pending as of the latest update.
The incident highlights how quickly a routine traffic collision can turn into a more serious confrontation, particularly when those involved leave their vehicles and begin arguing or fighting.
Authorities have not indicated that anyone suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash or confrontation. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details could be released as police determine what led to the fight and whether further charges will be filed.
