A 4-year-old boy is in critical condition after being found with a gunshot wound to the head inside a Far South Side home Tuesday afternoon, according to Chicago police.
Officers responded to a residence in the 2200 block of East 99th Street shortly after 4 p.m. in the Jeffrey Manor area. They found the child injured inside the home and recovered a firearm at the scene.
The boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Police have not released additional information about his current medical status.
Investigators are working to determine exactly how the shooting happened. Earlier information surrounding the emergency call was unclear, and authorities have not publicly established all of the circumstances that led to the child being shot.
The presence of a firearm at the residence is part of the ongoing investigation. Police have not said who the gun belongs to or whether anyone else was inside the home when the shooting occurred.
