A Morgan Hill man was arrested after bringing his wife to a San Jose hospital and telling authorities that he had killed her, police said.
Roy Anthony Lopez, 37, arrived at Good Samaritan Hospital at about 9:20 a.m. Saturday. San Jose police were notified after Lopez reportedly told hospital staff that he had killed his wife.
First responders found an adult woman inside a vehicle parked at the hospital. Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment, but she died at the scene. Authorities have not publicly identified the woman.
San Jose officers detained Lopez without incident before Morgan Hill police arrived and took him into custody. He was later booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of murder.
Police say the killing happened in Morgan Hill
According to the preliminary investigation, the alleged homicide occurred at a home in the 1100 block of Vintage Lane in Morgan Hill.
Investigators searched the residence after determining that the incident had taken place there. Police said no firearm was used, but they have not disclosed how the woman died or released a possible motive.
The circumstances surrounding what happened inside the home remain under investigation.
Three children found at the residence
The investigation took another serious turn when officers found the couple’s three children inside the Morgan Hill home. The children are 14, 6 and 3 years old.
Police said the children were safely taken from the residence and later placed in the custody of the Santa Clara County Department of Family and Children’s Services.
Authorities have not publicly detailed what the children may have seen or heard, although investigators believe they may have been present when the alleged killing occurred.
The family had been married for more than a decade, according to police.
Victim’s identity has not been released
The woman’s identity remains undisclosed as authorities work through the notification process with her family.
Police have also not announced a motive or provided additional details about the circumstances leading up to the death. Those questions are expected to remain part of the ongoing investigation.
For neighbors in the area, the police activity at the home was an unsettling sight. Officers remained at the residence for several hours as investigators worked to document and process the scene.
Lopez’s arrest does not establish guilt, and the case remains under investigation.
