At least five people were killed in separate crashes across El Paso over the weekend, with police saying speed and alcohol may have played a role in several of the deadly incidents.
The crashes happened Friday and Saturday in different parts of the city. Investigators are continuing to determine exactly what led to each collision.
Three killed in Redd Road and Southwestern Drive crash
The deadliest crash happened Friday night at the intersection of Redd Road and Southwestern Drive.
Police were called shortly after 9:30 p.m. on October 2 after a Ford F-250 and a GMC Sierra collided. Investigators said the Ford was traveling east on Redd Road while the GMC was heading north on Southwestern Drive when the vehicles crashed in a T-bone collision.
The GMC then struck a traffic pole.
Three people suffered serious injuries and later died. They were identified as 57-year-old Edgar Dominguez, 56-year-old Velsa Dominguez and 49-year-old Rafael Mendoza.
Police said speed and alcohol are possible contributing factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
Driver dies after Loop 375 crash
A separate deadly crash happened early Saturday morning along Loop 375 near Midway.
Police said 33-year-old Celeste Dion Dominguez was driving east on Loop 375 shortly after midnight when her Mazda 3 veered off the roadway for reasons that have not yet been determined.
The vehicle struck a high-mast light pole before coming to rest on the Midway on-ramp. The car caught fire, and Dominguez died at the scene.
Investigators said speed and alcohol are possible factors in that crash as well.
Motorcycle crash claims another life
Later Saturday night, another fatal crash occurred in West El Paso.
According to investigators, 55-year-old Salvador De Leon was riding a motorcycle north on North Desert Boulevard around 10:53 p.m. when he struck a curb and lost control.
The motorcycle went up onto the landscaped median separating the roadway from the on-ramp. De Leon was thrown from the motorcycle and landed on the I-10 West on-ramp.
He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
Police said speed and alcohol may also have contributed to this crash. The investigation is continuing.
El Paso traffic deaths continue to rise
The three deadly incidents brought five weekend crash deaths in all, adding to an already serious year for traffic safety in El Paso.
The latest police release identifies the motorcycle crash as the city’s 51st traffic fatality of 2026. That compares with 46 traffic deaths recorded at the same point last year. The three deaths from the Redd Road and Southwestern Drive crash were counted as the 47th, 48th and 49th fatalities, followed by the Loop 375 death as the 50th and the motorcycle death as the 51st.
Police have not announced final causes for the crashes, and the investigations remain active. The possible involvement of speed and alcohol is still under investigation and should not be treated as a final determination.
For families and drivers across El Paso, the weekend’s crashes underscore the dangers that can develop quickly on city roads, particularly when excessive speed or impaired driving may be involved.
