A 39-year-old man was hospitalized early Sunday after being shot in the abdomen during a confrontation in Philadelphia’s Spring Garden neighborhood, with police continuing to search for the person responsible.
Officers were called to the 1000 block of Spring Garden Street shortly after midnight, at about 12:34 a.m. Oct. 4, following a report of a person with a gun. When officers arrived, they found the man suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
He was taken to Jefferson Hospital for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators say the shooting followed a confrontation involving the victim, a woman and a security guard in the area. According to police, the situation escalated and the security guard allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the man before fleeing the scene. Authorities have not publicly identified the guard.
Police are now working to determine exactly what led to the confrontation and what happened immediately before the shooting.
The suspect was described by police as a man between 20 and 30 years old with a tall, thin build. He was reportedly wearing all black clothing and was last seen running east on Spring Garden Street toward 10th Street.
No arrest had been announced as of the latest reports.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the confrontation or has information about the suspect to come forward. Anonymous tips can be provided to the Philadelphia Police Department at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
