A 15-year-old Uxbridge High School student died after being ejected from a vehicle during a single-car crash Saturday night on Chocolog Road, leaving the local school community mourning the loss.
Emergency crews were called to the area of 685 Chocolog Road after a Ford Focus carrying three people left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The 15-year-old student was ejected from the vehicle and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Her identity has not been publicly released.
The crash happened Saturday evening, and the circumstances leading up to it remain under investigation. Investigators have not said what caused the Ford Focus to leave the road, and officials have not released information about whether the other two people in the vehicle were injured.
The Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or may have information about what happened to contact the Uxbridge Police Department at 508-278-7755.
The loss has also reached Uxbridge High School, where administrators are preparing to support students and staff as they return to school. The district has activated its crisis response team, with counselors and support staff expected to be available to students.
School officials have asked the community to give the student’s family privacy while investigators work to establish the facts surrounding the crash. They have also urged residents to avoid speculation and rely on confirmed information as the investigation continues.
The Uxbridge Select Board expressed condolences to the student’s family, friends, classmates and teachers, saying the town will support the school community and first responders during the difficult days ahead.
For a community where students, families and school staff are closely connected, the death has brought a painful start to the school week. Further details about the crash are expected as the investigation progresses.
