A 3-year-old child was hospitalized Sunday after falling from a third-floor apartment window in North Miami, according to officials.
The child was taken to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital for treatment following the fall at an apartment complex along Northeast 18th Avenue.
Jean Dory, a neighbor who was nearby when the incident happened, said he heard a noise and then saw the child on the ground.
Dory said he rushed over to help. He picked up the child from the sidewalk, moved her onto the grass and called 911.
Emergency responders arrived shortly afterward and transported the child to the hospital. Radio traffic from the scene indicated that the child was alert during the response.
The circumstances that led to the fall have not been publicly detailed.
The incident also comes after another child fell from a window at a nearby apartment building in April. That child suffered serious injuries, including lung damage and a broken femur.
The latest fall has again drawn attention to the dangers young children can face around elevated apartment windows. No additional information about the 3-year-old’s condition was immediately available.
