A 63-year-old man was shot and killed Saturday afternoon at the Camelot Condominiums in South Fulton, where police are continuing to search for the person responsible.
South Fulton police were called to the complex at 5655 Old National Highway around 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 after receiving a report of a person shot. Officers found the victim with a gunshot wound and began emergency aid before South Fulton Fire and Rescue arrived. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified by his family as Wendell Lowe Sr. His former wife, Germaine Jett, told FOX 5 that Lowe was 63 and that the two shared two children. She described him as a former military member who enjoyed working on cars.
Jett also said the shooting has brought back painful memories for her family. She said another member of the family had previously been killed by gun violence at Camelot, and that Lowe’s youngest son was also killed at the same complex.
Police searching for shooter
Investigators remained at the condominium complex gathering evidence and working to determine what happened before the shooting.
Police said the suspected shooter fled the area after the gunfire. As of the latest reports, authorities had not publicly released a description of the suspect, announced an arrest or explained what led to the shooting.
The investigation remains active, and additional details are expected as detectives continue interviewing people and examining evidence from the scene.
Camelot Condos have been the focus of city action
Saturday’s killing comes as South Fulton officials are already taking steps to address longstanding problems at the property.
The city began demolishing a damaged Camelot building in February 2026 as part of a broader effort to remove blighted structures. The first demolition project involved Building 9 and was expected to take about two weeks, with the city describing the work as part of a larger effort to address safety and property conditions.
The complex has faced years of reported crime, fires and serious property-condition concerns. Six homicides were reported there in 2023, while additional shootings were reported at the property in 2025. A major 2020 fire displaced 24 families.
The city’s demolition effort is being carried out by Carrollton-based M Mitchell Group. Officials said the work is part of a larger plan involving multiple blighted structures at the complex, while the city continues to consider what could happen with the property in the future.
For Lowe’s family, however, the latest shooting is personal. Jett said the loss has reopened the grief surrounding earlier deaths in her family and renewed her call for an end to gun violence at the complex.
Police have not announced an arrest in the latest case. The investigation is ongoing.
