A man was found dead along the shoulder of northbound Highway 99 near Modesto on Thursday, prompting a CHP investigation and temporary lane closures in the area.
The California Highway Patrol’s Modesto office said a passing driver discovered the man’s body near Hatch Road. Investigators responded to the scene and began working to determine what happened before his death.
Authorities said there was no immediate indication that the man had been struck by a vehicle. The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation, and officials have not publicly identified the man.
The discovery also affected traffic on Highway 99. Two right lanes of the northbound freeway, just north of Hatch Road, were closed while investigators examined the area.
The lane closures were connected to the investigation as authorities worked at the scene. CHP has not released additional information about how the man died or what may have led to his death.
The investigation remains active, and additional details, including the man’s identity and the official cause of death, may be released as authorities learn more.
