Three men were wounded Thursday night after gunfire erupted near a liquor store in Chicago’s South Chicago neighborhood, sending all three victims to the hospital.
The shooting happened around 8 p.m. in the 8700 block of South Commercial Avenue near East 87th Street. According to police, the men were standing in the area when a passenger in a silver SUV opened fire. The vehicle then left the area eastbound on 87th Street.
The victims were identified by police only by their ages and injuries. A 32-year-old man was shot in the left shin, while a 49-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the right calf. A 38-year-old man was struck in the neck and cheek.
All three were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. Early reports listed the victims in varying conditions, with police later reporting the three were in fair condition.
The shooting brought a police and emergency response to the area around D&O Food & Liquors. Officers taped off portions of the street and sidewalk as investigators worked at the scene. Fire officials also confirmed that all three victims were transported to hospitals following the shooting.
As of the latest available information, no suspect had been taken into custody, and police had not released a motive for the shooting. Area 2 detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the gunfire.
