LAKEVILLE, Minn. — Two Lakeville high schools were placed under lockdown Tuesday after separate anonymous threats referenced possible weapons, including firearms and explosives. Police searched both campuses and found no weapons or evidence of violence.
The first threat was reported shortly after 9 a.m. through Lakeville Area Schools’ anonymous reporting system and was directed at Lakeville South High School. Because authorities considered the threat immediate and specific, students and staff were evacuated while police, first responders and K-9 teams searched the building.
No weapons were found at Lakeville South, according to police.
Students were moved from the school to Trinity Church and later to Hosanna Church, where families were able to reunite with them. The evacuation and reunification process unfolded as officers continued investigating the source of the threat.
The situation then shifted to Lakeville North High School.
Around 12:15 p.m., another anonymous threat was reported through the district’s reporting system. This threat also referenced weapons. Police responded to the school and searched both the building and surrounding area.
Again, authorities reported finding no weapons or evidence of violence.
For students inside the schools, the uncertainty made an already frightening situation more difficult.
Lakeville South student Eli Platt described hearing alarms and initially not knowing what was happening. Students followed safety procedures while waiting for additional instructions before eventually being evacuated.
At Lakeville North, students remained in lockdown while officers investigated. Families were asked to follow information provided by the school district and avoid interfering with the emergency response.
The Lakeville Police Department is continuing to investigate who submitted the threats. Authorities are working with state and federal partners as they try to identify those responsible. No suspect has been publicly identified, and officials have not announced a motive.
The incidents also come after a separate threat investigation involving Lakeville schools in September 2025. In that case, Lakeville police said a juvenile male was taken into custody after online threats were directed toward Lakeville South High School and McGuire Middle School.
Lakeville Area Schools maintains an anonymous reporting system that allows students, parents, staff and community members to report safety concerns. The district says the system is available around the clock and is intended to help school safety teams respond quickly to threats or other concerns.
Tuesday’s threats resulted in significant police and emergency response activity, but no injuries or acts of violence were reported, and searches of both schools did not uncover weapons. The investigation remains active as authorities work to determine who was behind the messages.
