I sat down with Head football coach Chris Crabtree at Waverly High School to hear his thoughts on the current season and our plans for progression throughout the year. ¨I feel we are a team that will continually get better from week to week. We just need to continue to work hard, have a great attitude, and give great effort. At the end of the day, if we do those things consistently we will put ourselves in a position to win¨, he said
With 39 players on the roster, Waverly High School´s football team is aiming to secure the state title. Every member of the team has a specific role to play. Our starting quarterback, Mason Kelly, is entrusted with completing passes to either one of our receivers Mason Pollard and Kody Swords, or a handoff to our runningback, Jase Hurd. Regardless of the role played, each individual is a crucial component of our team. With combined effort and hard work from all players, we have a promising chance at claiming the title this year.
Currently, our record stands at one win and one loss, our loss being to Miami Trace and our victory against Zane Trace. Our receiver Kody Swords, leads in receiving yards per game, averaging 141 yards. Our running back, Jase Hurd, leads in rushing yards with an average of 12 per game.
All of these vital players collectively contribute to Waverly´s strong football program. From the aggressive offense executed by our receiver and runningbacks to the tireless defense led by our defensive tackles and ends, Waverly is prepared to bring their best to the field this year. Get ready for an intense season ahead!
