A 36-year-old Los Angeles man has been arrested after a pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit-and-run in Glendale, police said.
The collision happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of East Colorado Street. Officers responding to the scene found a man in his 60s with life-threatening injuries.
The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to police.
Investigators began working to identify the vehicle involved after witnesses provided descriptions and surveillance footage was reviewed. Police also used an automated license plate reader photograph with a timestamp to help narrow down the vehicle and its registered owner.
Detectives from the Glendale Police Department’s Traffic Bureau and Robbery-Homicide Unit then followed additional leads that pointed them to the vehicle’s registered owner and an associated address.
The investigation eventually identified the suspect as Justin Ramirez, 36, of Los Angeles.
Shortly after 1 a.m. on Sept. 10, detectives located Ramirez at his workplace in the 1200 block of East Colorado Street, police said. He was arrested and booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
Police have not publicly identified the pedestrian.
