I had the chance to talk to the Waverly Tiger Marching band director, Mr.Ross, a couple of days ago, and he gave me some information about what they were going to do for the latest game. I asked him about what songs the band was going to do at the game, the halftime show was “As It Was” by Harry Styles, “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, and “Made You Look” by Meghan Trainor, I hope you all enjoyed the halftime show because they did a lot of practice to prepare for it. I asked him how well the season has gone for them so far, and in the words of Mr.Ross, he said, “It has gone well so far. We had a successful band camp this summer and are well into football season now. We’re getting ready to perform our 2nd halftime show and will learn our 3rd one for the Portsmouth West game.” In my own opinion, I can not wait for their next halftime show. I am sad that Mr.Stewart resigned from Waverly at the end of last year so we will not be having Mr.Stewart to help us report with the marching band this year. In other important news, the marching band recieved new uniforms!
Mr.Ross is happy to announce that the marching band has a new field house. Mr.Ross told me that he is very excited about this new fieldhouse. The band needed a new one for the past several years because the old fieldhouse had a leaky roof, no heat or air conditioning, and a single toilet bathroom in sore need of upgrading. The new building should provide them with ample space to meet and warm up for football and basketball games, store equipment, and hold other band functions.
This year, they are doing a lot of their “normal” events (parades they do every year, football games, etc.), but they are excited to have the opportunity to perform at a “Skull Session” at the Ohio State University on October 21. Skull Session is a giant pep rally that happens before every home OSU football game. It features the OSU Marching Band, sometimes the visiting team’s band, and usually a guest high school band. Waverly has been on the waiting list for about four years and we finally have the chance to perform at one. In addition to the bands, the OSU football team and Brutus usually make an appearance.
They are also performing at the Logan Fall Festival of Bands in October. We have not performed at this festival since 2017. Also next week, they are planning to rehearse an Elvis show and debut it at the home game against Portsmouth West.
