As the new year approaches us, we have a few new policies that have been implemented… let’s talk about one. The phone policy states “ Phones are to stay in lockers and are allowed out during lunch and in during our four-minute class changes”. Nobody is going to be completely happy with any rule in school, especially when it comes to our phones; but let’s discuss the policy.
Phones have always been a problem in schools whether it is taking nonconsensual pictures of students, cyberbullying, or just being too much of a distraction. Ms. Ramsey stated that the policy hopes to change students’ main focus. Snapchat, Instagram, texting, or playing games need to stop being a main priority especially when you’re putting it before your school work or during instruction. Focusing on learning and assignments will help students earn better grades and be more successful here at school.
That being said, what are the cons? Ms. Ramsey put into perspective that as upperclassmen we are now becoming young adults who are treated like young adults everywhere, but school. Upper-classmen are more mature naturally, but if we got special treatment that would not be fair to all underclassmen. We can all agree that as students, we have a job and part to play in our education. Not everything can be fun and without rules or consequences. If we all do a good job and do our part there is no doubt the teachers and administration will be more receptive to our ideas and concerns.
